Then nothing changed.

Machine learning has studied how systems learn for over forty years. Certain combinations of training methods produce instability. Not slow progress. Actual divergence. The system gets worse with more training, not better.

Researchers call this the deadly triad. Three individually reasonable approaches that guarantee failure when combined.

Enterprise AI training has its own version.

First: teaching tools before addressing beliefs. When someone sits down already convinced AI will not work for them, everything confirms the belief. The tool feels clunky because they expected clunky. The output feels generic because they were looking for reasons to dismiss it. No feature demonstration overcomes a belief never addressed.

Second: mandatory participation. When exploration happens under compulsion, the brain treats it differently. Neuroscience research on prediction error shows why. Someone expects a training to be pointless. It confirms the expectation. The brain records nothing. No surprise. No update. No encoding. Mandatory attendance creates these conditions at scale.

Third: one-size-fits-all content. A twenty-five-year-old who grew up with technology and a fifty-year-old who built their career before the internet are not in the same place. They do not need the same entry point. Treating them as identical learners does not work. The research says it does not converge. The real world confirms it.

All three together produce a training program looking good on paper and delivering nothing in practice. Completion rates high because attendance is mandatory. Satisfaction acceptable because nobody complains. Six months later, the tools gather dust.

The fix is not better content. It is better architecture.

Address beliefs before tools. Not after. Not alongside. Before. A person who believes AI is not for them filters every demonstration through the belief.

Ground participation in recognition, not compliance. When someone explores because curiosity sparked rather than because a manager mandated it, the brain encodes the experience differently. It becomes a foundation, not an obligation.

Meet people where they are. Not where the vendor assumed. Not where the timeline requires. Where they actually are, with their history, their doubts, and their strengths.
